Manipur's Governor Sends a Powerful Plea to the world.
On the occasion of World Wildlife Day, March 3, 2026, Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla stepped forward with a heartfelt and urgent appeal—one that went far beyond a ceremonial message. Taking to social media platform X, the governor urged the people of Manipur to renew their dedication to protecting the state's extraordinary biodiversity, reminding them that what lives in these forests and wetlands belongs not just to the land, but to the soul of Manipur itself.
Governor Bhalla drew particular attention to some of the state's most iconic wild residents. The Sangai, the rare brow-antlered deer that glides across the floating wetlands of Loktak Lake like something out of a folktale, stood at the heart of his message. Often called the jewel of Keibul Lamjao, the world's only floating national park, the Sangai is as much a cultural symbol as it is a biological marvel. The governor also highlighted the Nongin, Manipur's vibrant state bird, and the Amur Falcon—a migratory raptor that travels thousands of miles each year, briefly choosing Manipur as part of its breathtaking global journey.
What made the governor's message especially significant was its depth. He made clear that wildlife conservation is not simply a matter of protecting individual animals or ticking ecological boxes. It is, he stressed, about preserving the very identity of a people—the living connection between communities and the natural world that has shaped their history, traditions, and sense of belonging for generations.
With Manipur already emerging as a model of community-driven conservation, Governor Bhalla's words on World Wildlife Day carried both timely urgency and quiet confidence—a reminder that when people and nature move together, the results can be nothing short of remarkable.
